On Monday, near Murengeti village in Limuru, a lorry transporting cabbages overturned on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, resulting in a temporary traffic congestion. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple into a nearby ditch. Instead of assisting the driver and other occupants of the truck, some young men from the village rushed to the scene and began unloading the cabbages.
Their actions obstructed the flow of traffic on the bustling highway, forcing drivers to slow down or even come to a complete stop. Traffic police officers from the Tigoni police station promptly arrived and dispersed the young men, allowing traffic to resume its normal course.
Expressing his disapproval, local resident John Njagi condemned the incident and stated that the actions of the young men had brought shame upon the village. He highlighted that these idle youths had disregarded the well-being of others and attempted to profit by selling the cabbages, which rightfully belonged to the local community. Njagi emphasized that many residents in the area had diligently planted and nurtured these cabbages during the rainy season, and now it was time to harvest them.
Njagi called on the police to take appropriate action against the young men, emphasizing that their behavior was not only unlawful but also posed a significant danger. He stressed that their irresponsible actions could have caused a serious accident and that they needed to be taught a lesson.
