A somber atmosphere engulfed the Kelengei area in Bomet County as a tragic incident unfolded, involving a 37-year-old man who allegedly murdered his father while demanding the remaining money from the recent disbursement of Inua Jamii cash transfers.
The accused, Leonard Kipngetich, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his 74-year-old father, Joseph arap Oricho, and then locked him inside their house before carrying out the brutal act with a machete. The elderly man suffered deep cuts to his neck, head, and legs, leading to profuse bleeding and eventual death.
The loud screams of Oricho caught the attention of nearby residents, who swiftly arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect. Despite the deceased's desperate pleas for help and appeals to spare his life, the tragic outcome could not be prevented.
The senior assistant chief of Makimeny location, Paul Bett, revealed that the suspect's clothing and gumboots were stained with blood, while the murder weapon has yet to be discovered. Confirming the incident, Chepalungu Sub-county police commander Phanton Analo stated that the suspect has been arrested and is currently being held at Bomet police station.
Following the tragedy, the body of the deceased has been transferred to the mortuary at Longisa County Referral Hospital, where it will be preserved for further investigation. The entire community mourns the loss, and the area remains shrouded in grief and sorrow.
