A group of worshippers in Uganda's Kayunga District has made a solemn pledge never to enter a church again after a disturbing incident took place on Tuesday. The incident involved a couple engaging in sexual activity at the altar, causing outrage among the community.
The individuals involved in the incident were a 23-year-old married Catholic man and his recently divorced Muslim lover. It is reported that the man's wife discovered them in the act and raised the alarm, attracting the attention of nearby residents.
"The two individuals were apprehended amidst strong disapproval from the residents. The woman's headgear and the man's T-shirt were collected as evidence and are currently being kept at the residence of the Bugonya LC1 chairman, George William Kanda," stated Kanda, as quoted by the Monitor.
According to Kanda, the couple gained access to the church through the windows as the doors were locked at the time.
Following the incident, the culprits were forcibly taken by angry residents to Kanda's office. However, he eventually released them after filing a case against them for their indecent behavior.
By Thursday, the man had disappeared and his current whereabouts remain unknown. Kanda commented, "The case does not expire. He will be held accountable for his sin whenever he returns."
The faithful congregants, who belong to the Bugonya Church of Uganda, now demand that church leaders arrange a cleansing ceremony to purify the premises.
In response, the church leaders have urged their followers to observe an undisclosed number of fasting days as a spiritual practice following the shocking and sinful incident.
