Prominent activist Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, has addressed a video in which his former friend turned adversary, Nuru Okang'a, publicly criticizes him for allegedly abandoning the Azimio coalition and its leader Raila Odinga. Speaking exclusively to Nairobi News, Gaucho, who recently launched the Ghetto Revolution movement, emphasized that he harbors no personal animosity towards Okang'a.
"We operate on different levels. Our politics and approaches differ significantly," stated Gaucho, who has played a pivotal role in leading opposition-driven anti-government protests.
On July 2, 2023, Okang'a uploaded a video on his YouTube channel, launching a scathing attack against Gaucho and issuing threats. The video touched upon various topics, including a comparison of their respective political influence and allegations of Gaucho's involvement in orchestrating attacks.
Gaucho responded by sharing an audio call between himself and Okang'a, during which they discussed their political differences. Gaucho clarified that Okang'a's video was merely an attempt to gain social media attention and likes, using false information for political advantage.
"He was solely seeking views and likes on social media. However, he resorted to false information for political mileage. As of now, I hold no grudges against him," Gaucho added.
Addressing Okang'a's claims in the video, Gaucho refuted any involvement in planning or executing attacks, including the recent incident where Okang'a was assaulted on his way to an Azimio rally in Kamukunji. Gaucho reiterated that he himself had been a victim of an assault by unknown assailants.
Both Gaucho and Okang'a have been prominent figures since the 2022 elections, expressing their views and actively engaging in political activities that reflect their distinct ideologies.
