Babu Owino, the representative for Embakasi East in parliament, has entered a plea of not guilty in relation to charges of firearm misuse. Duncan Okatch, Owino's lawyer, presented arguments in court asserting that the prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence to establish the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Okatch emphasized that none of the witnesses had witnessed any disorderly behavior from Owino and contended that the prosecution's reliance on CCTV footage was insufficient to prove allegations of intoxication.
Furthermore, he argued that DJ Evolve, the victim, had testified to his friendship with Owino, suggesting a lack of motive for Owino to harm him.
Owino himself directly addressed the court, disclosing that he had expended Sh58.6 million on covering Evolve's medical expenses. He asserted that he had assumed responsibility for Evolve as a leader, which contradicted any intentions of causing harm.
The magistrate presiding over the case, Bernard Ochoi, has reserved his ruling for a future date.
