A tragic incident unfolded when a Catholic priest named Father Joseph Kariuki from Ruai parish passed away under mysterious circumstances shortly after checking into a lodging with his girlfriend. Father Joseph, 43 years old, accompanied by his 32-year-old partner, registered at the Monalisa Hotel in Gatanga sub-county on Friday night.
After spending the night together, the priest reportedly experienced dizziness, leading his girlfriend to promptly notify the hotel management to arrange for his urgent transfer to a hospital. According to a police report documenting the incident, the 43-year-old priest was declared deceased upon reaching Kenol Hospital in Murang'a.
The police report states, "A certain individual known as Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, also identified as a 43-year-old Catholic priest from the Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer residing in the Mangu area, checked in at the aforementioned hotel with his girlfriend, who is a colleague from their workplace in Ruai."
Officers from the Samura Police Station discovered the priest's lifeless body inside his vehicle, a black Toyota Harrier that had been used to transport him to the hospital. The body was subsequently transported to the Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi under police escort.
Ongoing investigations are being conducted to uncover more information regarding this unfortunate incident.
